Many people feel that they are invisible and unimportant and that nobody notices them whether they do anything good or not. As soon as they make a mistake or do something wrong, then they are noticed. Their moment in the spotlight is based on a negative. After a few experiences like that, it becomes their label. But during the course of every day, most people, even people who have that label, do several positive things, things that most always go unrecorded. David William Dolberg said, “Hopefully you allow yourself to realize that you have indeed made a difference (in life).” It’s too easy to be pessimistic or claim that nothing you have done truly matters. When being reasonable, you’ll already know that this isn’t the case. Start keeping track of the good that you do, however small the deed. This effort is for you, not to be shared with others for some sense of credit or pride. As you go throughout your day, your week, and your month…identify your influences. Re-trace the footsteps you’ve made in and out of the lives of those around you.” We all must feel good about ourselves before we can expect any other to feel that way about us. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” —Aesop. Seconds, only seconds, and it is possible to make a person’s day. To pick something up another drops or to say “Hello, have a nice day!” as you pass on the street. Seconds, mere seconds, to bring a smile to another’s face. “No one is use- less in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” —Charles Dickens. Simple kindnesses, kindnesses that we should do every day, and all the time. But to shovel a neighbor’s snowy walk and driveway may take an hour. To mow a widows lawn or to help a neighbor move, these are all things that can warm the heart of the neighbor as well as your own. Some people do those things on a regular basis, and it has become routinely done as acts of kindness and then you become a kindly person inside as well as outwardly. Yes, kindly deeds take seconds and/or kindly deeds take hours, but a doer of kindly deeds always walks away with a warm heart and a feeling of joy. Why? Because they brought joy and a warm heart to another. They are really heroes in the real sense of the word. We all have the capacity to be heroes. They are they who try to inspire and make others lives better. They whose love for others is in reality a reflection of their love of the Lord. Mark Twain said that “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” We are all deaf, and we are all blind to some things in life. We have been conditioned to turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to certain things that go on around us. We can change much easier than an actual deaf or blind person can regain their hearing or their sight. It doesn’t matter how old or young, positive change will always be energizing for us. No one feels better than the person who helps another. God takes notice of every act we do that we did not need to do.
