A few months ago (2016), I was very concerned about the survival of the conservative way of life and thinking in the U.S.A. At the time, it looked pretty certain that a liberal, Hillary Clinton, was going to be our next president. She and the liberal democrats were very positive about their likelihood of winning the 2016 election cycle, and the political polls were showing that she was way out ahead for most of the long period of the campaign race for the presidency. The Democrats were moving further to the left and in the process of giving in to Bernie Sanders when she wanted his support she went even further to the left. Donald Trump had won the President-elect position for the Republican side and no one was sure whether he was even a true conservative. His problem was that he kept saying unconventional things that got him in trouble with the “Good ol’ boys” in the party and with the news people. Even a very level-headed former Governor Mitt Romney said some very negative things about Trump. I could hardly believe my ears for the things he said. That was embarrassing to a lot of us who were fellow members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The press were all for Hillary with the exception of Fox News, who were obviously more honest in their reporting and were pushing a conservative agenda. Trump did pick a great running mate in Governor Mike Pence and other good supportive staff. I am not sure how it happened but he started being more presidential, more able to control that controversial tongue and believe it or not he won the majority of the electoral votes and enough of the states that had previously been on the left. Now the current President Trump is selecting a cabinet and they are excellent choices. His platform is what won him the election. He wanted to bring the country back to the time when there were jobs and manufacturing companies were not leaving the country for cheaper labor. He said he would renegotiate the trade agreements and make them fairer for Americans. He wants to appoint justices to the Supreme Court that will uphold the Constitution not try to change it to better fit the philosophy of the left. He wants to rebuild our military and make America great again. The military hadn’t been this small since the Second World War. Much of the military equipment is obsolete. Pres. Obama had very little interest in defense issues. Trump wants to build a wall to keep the drugs, and other undesirable and illegal immigrants from streaming across the border and to vet or verify all immigrants especially those coming from the Middle East. Terrorism is a major problem now all over the world with Jihadists organizations encouraging individuals to kill and blow people up indiscriminately. He wants to lower corporate and individual taxes to spark the economy and the very talk of it has already sparked the economy even before he has taken office.
The Dow has registered a historic high. He wants to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure by rebuilding old bridges and roads and our public transportation system in general.
On the other hand, Hillary and the Democrats wanted the same old, same old, to continue the failed policies of President Barack Obama who has been the president for the last eight years. Many Democrats wanted to elect our first woman president. Hillary is a very dishonest person, she would never had made a Margaret Thatcher or any of the great women leaders that the world has known. Trump kept repeating that while the Internet kept mysteriously kicking out proof of her dishonest dealings. We have had to put up with the first Black President for the last eight years, a liberal president who never had a clue about how to administer a golf shop let alone a country. Most of us viewed him as clueless, dangerous, and racist for the last 8 years. He promised to bring the country together but by the end of his administration we were more divided than we were in the 1950’s and 60’s. The blacks during his presidency are worse off than they were before he took office. We have gone from 8 trillion in debt to more than 19 trillion in debt. He never tried very hard to work with congress while he sat in the oval office. But he sure enjoyed gallivanting around the world on Air Force One.
Now the other half is going to have to deal with a conservative president and hopefully they will see what it is like to have someone in that office who knows how to get things done. Donald Trump is a very successful billionaire businessman. The hope is that after the losers on the left get through crying and licking their wounds they will settle down and give him a chance. Many of them vowed to leave the country if Trump were elected, but we haven’t observed any getting on planes, boats or driving toward the borders yet.
Alf Landon said, “Wherever I have gone in this country, I have found Americans.” My hope is that as President Trump takes office and starts making the changes he has promised that all Americans will become supportive of him and that we can again become a united country. Even during his first week he has made many positive changes. At this point the liberals may be wondering if they can survive. Many might ask what the difference is between liberal and conservative thinking and behavior, the following metaphor says it well:
“The ant worked hard in the withering heat all summer long , building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thought the ant was a fool and laughed and danced and played the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper called a press conference and demanded to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others were cold and starving.
CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC showed up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America was stunned by the sharp contrast.
How could this be in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper was allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appeared on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cried when they sang, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’
Acorn staged a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations filmed the group singing, ‘We shall overcome’.
Jeremiah Wright then had the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid exclaimed in an interview with Larry King the ant had got rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both called for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.
Finally, the EEOC drafted the Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant was fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home was confiscated by the government Green Czar.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ants food while the government house he was in, which just happened to be the ant’s old house, crumbled around him because he did not maintain it.
The ant had disappeared in the snow.
The grasshopper was found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, was taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.
Moral of the story: Be careful how you vote.”
