Several years ago, a team of Christian explorers, climbing Mt. Ararat in modern-day Turkey, found what they had been suspecting. At about 13,000 feet above sea level, well above the first snow line, they discovered a massive imprint of a wooden boat. The boat left an imprint in the surrounding terrain, it was approximately 450 feet long by 75 feet wide. After surveying the area, they estimated this imprint was over 4,000 years old. They were stunned to find that it was a perfect match, as confirmed in the records of the Bible, as Noah’s Ark. And so, on April 26th, 2010, the team issued a major press release: “THIS IS IT! We’ve found the Ark in its final resting place.” If true, it was a monumental day for every Christian on Earth. However, they did not dig down below the snow to take a sample of the wood, etc. Excavating, if ever allowed, will have to come with a larger group and with equipment capable of gingerly removing snow, ice, debris and whatever else may be covering the ark. This was not the first time that I had heard about someone seeing what they thought was the imprint of the ark on Mount Ararat. Many years ago, probably 50 years past, an airline pilot was flying over that same area and saw what he thought was the impression of a large ship on the top of that mountain. At that time, the Turkish government would not allow any expedition, even of qualified scientists to climb to that height to verify what the pilot thought he had seen. If the above impression of an ark, at 13,000 feet, is in fact Noah’s ark, it could possibly change the way millions of people, world wide look at the Old Testament today. Many of the stories in the Old Testament are and have been viewed as fictional. Some of them have been modified over the hundreds of years since first being translated by the various Biblical scholars. The story of Noah’s Ark has often been tagged a fairy tale. Why, because of the descriptive size of the ark that he was instructed to build. Also the fact that he was supposed to have corralled and then herded two of every kind of animal and foul of the air into his ark. He, supposedly, then fed and maintained them for forty days and forty nights until the rain stopped, then continued to do so until the sun came out and dried the land so that it would sustain their weight. Could Noah have built such a huge ship? Did he have help? It would take one of the finest shipyards in the world to tackle such a project in our day. Noah was a faithful prophet and apparently the Lord instructed him as to how to build it, maybe even showed him how to forge the tools he would need in order to even get started. Scientists have estimated the flood took place 5,000 years Before Christ. For comparison purposes, the good ship, Mayflower carried 200 passengers from England to the New World, and landed in the northeast of the America’s, September 6, 1620 A.D. nearly seven thousand years later. The Mayflower was only 50 feet long compared to the Noah’s Ark, which was 200 ft long by 75 ft. wide. The Mayflower was considered a standard ship in size and construction in its day and that is why 200 passengers were willing to put their lives on the line, to cross the, mostly uncharted ocean, trusting only in that little ship and the skills of the captain. Noah was a faithful Prophet of God who did what he was instructed to do, yes, the plans for the ark were God’s plans. And yes! God probably instructed Noah how to make the tools required to build it. And yes! God probably even showed him where to get the special gopher wood to build it with. Yes! He had help, like Nephi, in the Book of Mormon times, he was helped to build the ship that Lehi and his family traveled to the promised land in. Was it an easy task? No, but all of these spiritual stories ought to make us more faithful and believing in the rest of the scriptures. They do me! Too, Mt. Sinai was found in Saudi Arabia. But more and more scientists are being confronted with some unpleasant evidence that Christian beliefs are more fact than many of their scientific theories. A recent scientific report found that more than 90 percent of humans and creatures may have stemmed from the same two parents. If that doesn’t conjure up Biblical Stories such as the one about Adam and Eve or Noah, nothing does. Glenn Beck and Stu Burguiere discuss a bombshell revelation that offers scientific proof that supports another assertion in the Bible. It appears that at least one predominantly Muslim country has secured physical evidence about where Moses’ “Mt Sinai” and where the 10 Commandments originated. Apparently, the exact location of Mount Sinai has been discovered and is under guard. A historian reportedly followed the telltale signs articulated in the Holy Text that led him to the place. However, what he found were a closely guarded compound and an Islamic military presence. As the gap between facts in the Bible and science narrows, Christians are being proven correct about the actual existence of Holy men such as Moses and Noah. However important the actual place that Mount Sinai resides is not nearly as important as our belief that it did exist and that great and wonderful, spiritual things took place there. The great teacher Karl Maeser said. “There is a Mount Sinai in every person’s life if they can be motivated to climb it.” These latest findings are very motivating to many of us.
