Louis Armstrong was a trumpeter, bandleader, singer, soloist, film star and comedian. He was considered one of the most influential artists in jazz history. He is known for songs like “Star Dust,” “La Vie En Rose” and “What a Wonderful World.” That was the one that I loved, “What a Wonderful World.”
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people goin’ by
I see friends shakin’ hands, sayin’
“How do you do?”
They’re really sayin’,
“I love you.”
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
What a wonderful world
I have always enjoyed Louis Armstrong and his raspy but melodious voice. I could never hear all the words of his songs very well. But I could hear enough of, “What a wonderful world”, to know that I wanted to hear all of the words often. I believe that he was a good man. When he passed away there was a lot of sadness in the music world. There was sadness even by people like me, people who have never attended a concert and who can’t carry a tune for even 50 feet. I love nature, I love the Spring when things begin to bloom, I love the blue sky, and I think to myself -What a wonderful world. Many years ago my wife and I were driving up north on a clear and beautiful day, we were enjoying the beautiful blueness of the sky and the huge billowy clouds. Then out of that blue came a few gray clouds and pretty soon we saw drops of rain begin to splatter on the windshield. Then it came down like a torrent and after a very few moments, all of a sudden it stopped; like a switch had been turned off. Then the sun appeared in the west and the eastern sky was glorified by a huge, bright and beautiful rainbow that stretched across the whole of it. We had to stop, get out of the car and take it all in. The colors of that rainbow were so pretty in the sky and we thought to ourselves, what a wonderful world. Yes! The colors of the rainbow are pretty in the sky, as are the colors on the faces of the people goin’ by. The colors of the rainbow and the colors of our faces, were all ordained of God. What a wonderful world. Shakin’ hands with friends and sayin’ “How do you do?” Is really sayin’, “I love you.” What a wonderful world. Our granddaughter gave birth to a preemie baby a few weeks ago, we visited them in the hospital and the baby cried and his little arms and hands were just a flyin’; he was hungry. I hear babies cry and I watch them grow and they’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know. There is a three year old in our family that already uses a cell phone. I think to myself, what a wonderful world. Yes’ I think to myself what a wonderful world. A wonderful world that a loving God in Heaven created just for you and for me. With trees of green, red roses too and I see them bloom for me and for you. There are bright blessed days and dark sacred hours when we lay our heads down and dream through the night. What a wonderful world. Yes, I think to myself what a wonderful world. And I think to myself what a wonderful song, and I say to myself what a wonderful man, Brother Louis Armstrong.
